Scope of Practice

As a NNCP (Natural Nutrition – Clinical Practitioner) you are able to assess nutritional imbalances and weaknesses, and thereby educate individuals and groups to help them build and maintain nutritional well-being.

You encourage clients to discuss their choices with their medical professional and to take responsibility for their own unique nutritional requirements.

You always maintain confidentiality regarding client information, conducting yourself with the utmost professionalism and moral character.

As per the legal restrictions of your profession, you do not diagnose illness or provide therapy to relieve illness. Nor do you engage in tissue penetration, collection of specimens from the body, use medical instrumentation or radiation.

You never recommend that anyone leave their present medical professional or stop taking prescribed medications and in fact, encourage them to seek help from a licensed physician for the treatment of ailments or disease.

You do not claim or advertise a substance as a treatment, cure or preventative for any disease or disorder.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in compliance with the laws of the province in which you practice.

Code of Ethics

​As members of the IONC, ROHPs and RNCPs commit to the following:

​

  1. ROHPs/RNCPs are honest at all times, and comply legally with various municipal, provincial and federal government laws and regulations.

  2. ROHPs/RNCPs maintain competency and practice safely within their scope of practice and training.

  3. ROHPs/RNCPs treat clients with integrity, and respect the clients’ rights to make informed choices about their healthcare.

  4. ROHPs/RNCPs educate the public about Orthomolecular and Holistic nutrition, providing accurate information about nutrition, diet and lifestyle.

  5. ROHPs/RNCPs educate clients regarding specific diet options and nutritional support to help build and maintain nutritional well-being.

  6. ROHPs/RNPCs assess nutritional imbalances through bodily symptoms to support their clients’ unique nutritional requirements..

  7. ROHPs/RNCPs do not treat or diagnose disease.

  8. ROHPs/RNCPs do not perform controlled acts without legal authority.

  9. ROHPs/RNCPs do not advise clients to adjust or stop medications or discontinue seeing a medical professional.

  10. ROHPs/RNCPs respect and value the importance of confidentiality and privacy issues and are diligent with the collection of client’s private information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

  11. ROHPs/RNCPs participate in professional development activities adhering to IONC renewal policy guidelines.

  12. ROHPs/RNCPs interact with colleagues, other health professionals and clients in a polite and constructive manner reflecting integrity and accountability.

1. Natural Nutritionists conduct themselves with integrity, honesty and fairness.
2. Natural Nutritionists practice safely, competently and legally.
3. Natural Nutritionist educate clients and promote vibrant health through natural
eating and the use of natural supplements and healthy lifestyle choices.
4. Natural Nutritionist do not diagnose diseases, dysfunctions or disorders.
5. Natural Nutritionist do not treat diseases, dysfunctions or disorders, nor provide
therapy to relieve illness.
6. Natural Nutritionists do not perform any medical intervention including tissue
penetration, radiation, collection of human specimens or medical instrumentation.
7. Natural Nutritionists respect the client’s right to make choices.
8. Natural Nutritionists place the client’s best interests as their primary obligation.
9. Natural Nutritionists respect the values and abilities of colleagues and other
members of the client’s professional team, and never recommends that anyone
discontinue seeing a medical doctor or discontinue taking medications.
10. Natural Nutritionists respect confidentiality and privacy.
